Happy BIRTHday Aniston! | 24 hrs Newly Born

Oh Aniston, she is just so stinking precious. Her momma had won one of my BIRTHday packages to have her sweet first baby photographed and the session was just such a joy to photograph. I love all my BIRTHday hospital sessions but especially when it’s a first baby it’s especially exciting as you can literally feel that ‘first baby’ energy as soon as you walk into the room. There were a lot of family members there visiting when I arrived and since they are such small rooms, I do always ask everyone except Mom & Dad to step out while we do pictures so we can have space to move around. Trust me, I feel bad doing it, but it does make it easier and faster to work. Aniston was bright eyed & bushy tailed during the whole time I was there but I skillfully caught her on some blinks to it looked like she was sleeping. And she even smiled for me too! I brought the 1 Day Old onesie and the hospital girly (striped one) hat and she totally rocked it. =0)

Choosing to have me come to the hospital for a BIRTHday session is a fantastic alternative to going with the contracted companies that go door to door in the hospital as I bring my expertise and know how to work with new babies. I also do not use flash under any circumstance to protect their little eyes and am on partial-call to be there the day your baby is born (or the next day depending on the time of birth). Trust me, having true professional images of the day your baby is born is something you will treasure forever. Don’t miss out, I only take a limited amount of bookings each month!

Sophia’s Beautiful & Very Purple Newborn Session

Usually I get initial inquiries for my portrait services from expectant moms, but every now and then a Daddy will get in touch for more information and will usually discuss it with Mom before getting back to me. This time, Daddy was really buying for his wife a ‘Push Present’ and knew that she loved photographs so very much and so after speaking with me over the phone, decided to book a basic newborn session (baby only portraits) for their new baby girl as Mom’s ‘Push’ present. I loved it!! He surprised her shortly before baby was born and did a wonderful job keeping me up to date on when baby arrived. She was in fact one of my three baby girls all born on the same day in April, it was wild. A couple weeks ago I went out to their home in Lee’s Summit (yep, I sure will drive out there!) and met this ADORABLE little family. Sophia could not have behaved more beautifully for me. She slept just about the entire time, let me do whatever I wanted to with her and just was a total dream baby. She’s now one of my Watch Me Grow baby planners and I can’t wait to photograph her as she’s grows this year with her parents and her adoring big sis!

Whitmore’s 1 Month Session at Home

Little man Whit is such a handsome little doll! He arrived a little earlier than his due date period and so this session was done when he was a month old at home out in the Lawrence area (which I don’t mind driving to at all!) I always tell parents that I don’t have any expectations of babes when they are past the newborn curly stage (under 2 weeks) but Whit did amazing. He was sleeping when I arrived and we took advantage of it to get his stunning images on their red throw blanket I found on their couch. I love using items I find in the home as backdrops so that way when the images are enlarged and framed they will look absolutely perfect in that room.

For in-home sessions I usually shoot in the living room, baby’s room, and the master bedroom since those are the areas that families spend the most time in. As a back up, I always bring my studio lights with me in case there’s not enough available window light. It’s also great to be able to shoot in the same areas over the Watch Me Grow baby plan, which Whit is delightfully on, and I’m excited to document his first year. Happiness starts at home, so that’s why I love doing so many of my sessions there. =0)

Declan’s Bright & Modern Newborn Session

I love doing newborn sessions in the client’s home, it’s always fun to incorporate items that the baby will grow with and know. I first met Declan on his BIRTHday at the hospital and will soon be doing his first Watch Me Grow session, I can’t wait to see how he’s grown. For his Premiere newborn session, we did both the baby only portraits and portraits with his family, essentially two sessions in one (studio style and lifestyle). Declan was wide awake anytime he wasn’t in his nursery in the cocoon of heat & warmth so it was great to get both sleepy and awake photos (yes, and some fussy ones too). I have to say his nursery has been one of my very favorites and I’ve seen a lot! His oh-so-creative momma really did an amazing job and kudos to daddy for painting the incredible chevron, I know that was… time consuming! Haha!

Seriously, the proofs was his session were just incredible, I wish I could share them all. But here’s a good assortment to show you how I try to mix it up for my Premiere sessions! Simple Newborn Session at Home

This little guy belongs to some school friends of ours and his mom and I traded photos for hair since she’s a hair stylist, so totally mutually beneficial and awesome trade! I first did their maternity session a couple short months ago and before we knew it, their adorable little boy was here! Until I have a studio of my own (and I’ll still offer this when I do), I always go to the parents homes for the newborn session. This way they don’t have to pack up baby and it’s just warm and comfortable in their own environment. Many parents tell me how much they love this option! I bring all my equipment with me that I need and some prop choices for parents to pick out. Their dogs sure were curious as to what I was up to and I was excited when they cooperated for a few images! All in all, we wrapped up this session in about an hour and a half. There are a TON of images from their session but I usually only showcase some of my favorites to keep it brief on there. Happy BIRTHday Jacob! Hours New at the Hospital

Introducing the oh so handsome little man Jacob, photographed just hours new at the hospital. He was just so sweet!! Much like Declan, he didn’t care much for being cold (funny considering he was born in the Winter, haha) but we managed to get him down to diaper at the end for a quick snap of his cute little rolls! The green patchwork blanket arrived as a gift from their church while I was there and once I saw it, I loved the bright colors and knew we had to get him on it. I mixed up the images presented in BW and color to show the beauty of both. Black/White is truly timeless and I strive to develop my tones so they just right. I ended up staying and chatting with Jami & James for quite a while, we had a lot in common and it’s nice to be able to sit down and just chat about non-photography stuff! They blessed my heart with letting me hold & cuddle this sweet boy for a few moments which I treasured, there’s just nothing like holding a brand new baby (except maybe smelling a brand new baby…)

Happy BIRTHday Sophia! First Family Portraits

Meet little miss Sophia with her darling button nose and squishy cheeks, she was just hours old in these images taken at the hospital on her BIRTHday. These sessions are always so fun and so awesome for new parents to have so they can share every beautiful little detail of their new baby with their friends and family without having to miss a minute. I especially love timing my arrival for when the big siblings will be there, in this case Sophia’s oh so adoring big sister Anya. These two will be quite the pair and best of friends.

Over the last few years since I’ve been in Kansas, I’ve been told quite a bit by parents that they are just looking for some “quick” shots of their newborn baby and don’t want or can’t commit to a full length newborn session for whatever reason. As my business model has evolved and grown, I want to be able to provide an option for these parents to have a true professional photographer to work with to get what they are looking for so they don’t end up having to sacrifice in quality somewhere else. But I also needed to find a way that doesn’t hurt my business and compensates me for my professional imagery that I provide. I found a happy medium in the new BREEZY Newborn MINI session.

It’s important to note that like all my newborn session fees, it does NOT include any products and products can be purchased al-la-carte after the session when we proof. Digital packages (the entire gallery of 30-40 images) are available via instant download starting at $350 + tax which all include your own custom mobile app for sharing your images! You can also SAVE 10% on ALL your purchases, including the BREEZY newborn session, for the entire first year if you purchase the WATCH ME GROW baby plan. Photographing a Preemie “Newborn” Session | 6 pounds of Ryann

If you’ve followed my blog or my work on Facebook over the last year, you know that I have like, this HUGE GINORMOUS TO THE MOON AND BACK heart for preemies and families in the NICU. I plan on sharing on Monday the very first NICU session I did that inspired it all but for tonight I wanted to share sweet Miss Ryann’s ‘newborn’ session at home. Now you have to understand, Ryann was all of 6 pounds when I met her. Pretty tiny right? Well, she was also 2 months old and it was her first week home from the NICU. Her adoring parents wanted to get her newborn portraits done as soon as she got home and found me via Google because of all the NICU work I do (and we both wish we’d met earlier to get images of Ryann in the NICU, sad face). Because of my extensive experience with photographing preemies at the hospital, Ryann’s mom knew that I would know how completely important things like germs were (they are always important but to preemies, they could mean hospitalization) and how to work with babies who have two ages: gestational age and life age. These two ages go hand in hand. So while Ryann was two months old, she was pretty much a newborn still in size but quite a character in spirit and may or may not cooperate like a newborn normally may. (But honestly, no newborn ever acts a like. To think you know what to expect from a newborn behavior wise is like thinking you know how Lindsay Lohan is going to mess up next, it’s anyone’s guess!). I tried the bean bag as my posing equipment first like I always do, but you know, she just wasn’t digging it. Momma held her to soothe her and put her back but after a minute, she was just not happy. It’s not that she wasn’t tired or behaving, it just wasn’t… Daddy.

On Daddy’s chest listening to his heart beat and the steadiness of his breathing, Ryann drew her strength. This was her safe spot, her sweet spot. Most likely from Kangaroo care (skin-to-skin contact parents do in the NICU) and she didn’t want to be anywhere else. So, what’s a girl to do? Well, I turned Daddy into my poser and put the blanket between him and Ryann, laid him on the couch, and that sweet beautiful 6 pounds of Ryann slept the rest of the session away.

I think Daddy did too.

Fun little fact: Turned out Ryann was Christian’s neighbor at the hospital. When there’s 5 NICU’s in a 10 mile radius, that’s amazing. Small world eh?
